# The widget

> What visitors see on your website, and how to shape it.

The widget is the part of Writine your visitors touch. It is a launcher in the
corner of your site that opens a chat panel.

It loads in a sandboxed frame from the Writine dashboard, which has two
consequences worth knowing. Your page cannot read the conversation, and the
widget cannot read your page. Styling it happens in Writine, not in your own
stylesheet.

## What a visitor can do

<Columns cols={2}>

    A conversation opens the moment they type. No account, no password.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Send files and images" icon="paperclip">

## What you control

| Area | Where |
| - | - |
| Colours, corners, theme, launcher icon | **Settings**, **Widget** |
| Position, greeting, offline message | **Settings**, **Widget** and **Websites** |
| Availability and business hours | **Settings**, **Websites** |
| Allowed origins | **Settings**, **Websites** |

## Turning it off

Switching off **Show the widget** under **Settings**, **Websites** removes it
from your site without deleting the site or its history. The snippet can stay on
your pages.
